Dr. Imad Afyouni is an assistant professor in Computer Science and works as a Full-Time Researcher in Computer Science at the Technology Innovation Center, Wadi Makkah, Saudi Arabia. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Western Brittany (Sept 2013), where he worked as a research and teaching assistant at the Naval Academy Research Institute – MoTIM group – Brest, France. He has been an Assistant Professor at the American University of the Middle East, Kuwait (2014-2015). He had also previously worked at Bi*Where/Galigeo Inc. as a Research and Development Engineer in Paris, France. He received a B.A. degree in mathematics/informatics, and a Master degree in Computer Science from Joseph Fourier University (Grenoble, France).
His main research interests includes mobile/pervasive computing, data science and database systems, and location-based services. He is currently leading/co-leading several research and innovation projects in the Technology Innovation Center, Wadi Makkah, to help in transforming innovative ideas and projects into economically viable products.
His Ph.D. thesis focussed on context-aware processing of continuous location-dependent queries in indoor mobile environments. This work was conducted under the superision of Pr. Christophe Claramunt and Dr. Cyril Ray, and in collaboration with Dr. Sergio Ilarri from the University of Zaragoza – Spain. Research keywords include: ambient intelligence, knowledge representation, query language, data management, indoor environments, location-dependent queries, continuous processing, and moving objects.
His teaching activities include several computer science and computing courses such as computer architecture, operating systems, wireless networks, relational databases, artificial intelligence, and location-based services.
